It Has Been Too Long….

I am happy to say….I am back!

It has been a tough 1-1/2 years, but I am finally feeling so much better.  With each new day I can sing praises to my God and rejoice in the fact that I am one step closer to being healthy again.

I have been dealing with Leukemia, Von Wildebrand Blood Disorder and most recently cancer of the thyroid.  I think I am almost finished!!  My next step is (currently) eating a iodine free diet which will prepare me to spend some time in isolation with radio-active chemo (to make sure all of the thyroid cancer is gone).  And then, I hope to be done for 3 years or more (before the need for Leukemia chemotherapy returns).  My family has been so amazing through this time.  Their love and support has been overwhelming.  Especially, our oldest son, Michael, who was determined that I would not sit through a chemotherapy session alone – no matter how exhausted he was or how long the treatment lasted.

Since I have written on my web page, I have become a Grandmother.  And he is the most adorable little guy in all of China!

Xavier June 2016

Xavier June 2016

He lives in China – so far away – but our son, Steven and his beautiful wife, Jiaxuan are wonderful at sending us pictures and videos every few days.  We also get to video-chat with them so Xavier knows who we are and recognizes us.  Xavier actually called me “Grandma” for the first time….but he used the Chinese term for “Grandma” which is the other Grandmother.  He will be bi-lingual, so is still trying to get the correct words with the right language.  But I am not complaining!!  I loved that he recognized me as his Grandma, even if the language was the incorrect one!

They will be coming to Kennewick, WA from China in December 2016 for 3 weeks.  We can’t wait!  And our other 3 children and their spouses will be joining us for as many days as their schedules allow.  I am so excited!!  Could Christmas vacation be any better?  I don’t think so!  I am already trying to think of everything I need to do and plan for!

This past week I held my first card class in over a year!  What a day!  There are so many creative and talented people in Kennewick, Washington!  I prepared the cards, cut the paper and got ready the supplies – but I don’t think there were two cards the same by time each person put their own personal touches on.  What a blessing to see your own ideas turn into something even greater!

Here is my favorite card of the bunch.  My girlfriend, and also a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Illinois, Deb Kramer, made me a card similar to this in the past year.  It became my motto and quickly became one of my favorite stamp sets.

You've Got This

The stamp set is called, You’ve Got This #139572 (wood-blocks) and #139575 (clear-blocks) and can be found on my web-site.  I used Stampin’ Up!® Night of Navy cardstock #100867, Lost Lagoon cardstock (no longer available), Sahara Sand cardstock #121043 and Whisper White cardstock #100730.  The Stampin’ Up!® classic inks used are Night of Navy #125970, Sahara Sand #126976 and Archival Black #140931.  What a great card for anyone who is struggling!

Thank you for looking at my web-site!

Mixing Old and New

I have been trying to use up some of my retired Stampin’ Up! products and have come up with a couple of ideas I will show you over the next few days.

It seems that I see these awesome Stampin’ Up! brads, flowers and other embellishments in the catalogs.  I buy them with great plans to making wonderful cards and projects.  But the item sits there, untouched, until it retires…that is usually a very long time of sitting there untouched!  But once it retires I come up with all kinds of ideas to use these products on, only to find that I can’t get any more! Does this ever happen to you?  How frustrating!

But I do love the ideas that I come up with and the cards and projects do meet the needs of what I need or to bring joy to someone else.

Here is a card I have made mixing “old and new” products together.  I really like how these turned out.

Black/White Birthday card

Black/White Birthday card

This card is made with the current Stampin’ Up! Designer Paper called Kaleidoscope #132995.  This is a great paper which can be used for a multitude of occasions and projects.

I added embellishments from the Stampin’ Up! Pop Up Posies Kit #129305.  But I have GREAT NEWS!!  You are still able to purchase this embellishment kit on the Stampin’ Up! Clearance Rack in my on-line store.  I am not always this lucky!  But pretty excited about being able to still get this embellishment.  But order soon, because they are available only while supplies last!

Here is a Birthday card using the blue flowers in the kit

Black/White Birthday

Black/White Birthday

In addition to the flower embellishments from this kit, I used retired brads for the center of the flowers.  I used retired Stampin’ Up! Everyday Enchantment Brads and Stampin’ Up! Jellybean Sweet Shop brads.  The Jellybean Sweet Shop brads had little cupcakes that were perfect for the Birthday cards.  And the Everyday Enchantment Brads has hearts, butterflies and designs that fit perfectly with the Thank you and Thinking of You cards I made with this same pattern.

Love & Sympathy Stamp Set

I used this stamp set today for the first time.  What a beautiful card it turned out to be!  Love & Sympathy Stamp Set #122797 (clear-mount) and #128652 (wood-mount).

Before beginning, I looked at several of the Stampin’ Up! Double  Designer Papers© but none of them fit the picture I had in my mind….so I decided to keep this card very simple.  Sometimes “simple” is good!

Love and Sympathy with Pear Pizzazz

Love and Sympathy with Pear Pizzazz

For this card I used Pear Pizzazz cardstock #131201 and Very Vanilla cardstock #101650.  For the stamped image, I colored the rubber on the stamp instead of stamping in ink so that I could use multiple colors on a single stamped image. (See below for directions for this easy technique)  I used Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Write marker and the Pear Pizzazz marker – both in the Subtles Collection #131263.   For the sentiment I used Black Staz On Ink #101406 both on the card-front and inside of the card.

The sentiment that comes in this set is so beautiful.  It reads, “Those whom we have LOVED never really leave us.  They live on forever in our HEARTS and cast their RADIANT LIGHT on our every shadow.”  ~ Sylvana Rossetti.  I love that thought!

The inside of the card says “Sending LOVE and Sympathy”

As I was working on the first card I wondered what the card would look like using Raspberry Ripple cardstock and ink.  I loved it even more!

Love and Sympathy using Raspberry Ripple

Love and Sympathy using Raspberry Ripple

For this color combination, I used Raspberry Ripple cardstock #126842, Very Vanilla cardstock #101650, Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green Stampin’ Write Markers.  These markers are part of the 2012-2014 In-Color set #126856.

I also stamped the flower/leaves stamp with the same colors on the front of the envelope

Matching Envelope

Matching Envelope

If you have never used the “coloring” technique to get multiples colors on one stamp, it is very easy to do.  I don’t usually do that with complicated stamps, but simple ones like the above pictures are extremely easy and quick to do.

  • Lay the stamp back (rubber side up).
  • Use the large brush end of the marker.  Hold the marker so that you are using the side of the brush (so that you don’t damage the tip).
  • Color the image the color you desire.
  • If your coloring is taking too long, huff (blow warm air on the inked image).  This will keep the ink from drying out until you are ready to stamp your image.
  • When you have completed coloring, stamp your image.

I hope that you will try this technique, if you haven’t already done so.  Using a variety of techniques keeps our stamping fresh and exciting!

Please let me know if I can assist you in any way!  And feel free to shop in my on-line store 24/7!

More fun decorated Paint Cans

I decorated 4 different paint cans the other day and I still have a dozen ideas running around in my head!  I can’t wait to get started with my new ideas.  I am quickly becoming disappointed that my sister only had just a few over 2 dozen, as my ideas for these cans have far surpassed the amount of cans I have to decorate!

These two are also Valentine’s Day themed – but I have some ideas to try out and then I will share them later too!!

Love U Paint Can

Love U Paint Can

The “love” and “U” are cut from Basic Black cardstock #121045.  I have used the Stampin’ Up! Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets #120805 on the back of the Basic Black cardstock before cutting.  That makes adhering small pieces so much easier.  I love the Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets!  They are so convenient and so easy to use!!

The heart is punched out of Silver Glimmer Paper #124005 with the Full Heart Punch #119883 and the ribbon is the 1/8″ Silver Ribbon #132137.  I also used the Silver Ribbon and a small heart for the package of chocolate candy.

The fourth Valentine Can I made is also pink.  This one I made similar to the Purple one I shared a couple of days ago.  This can was decorated with items from the retired Artisans Kit.  It contains paper roses and 2 different laces.  The hearts above the wide lace also came in the Artisan’s Kit.

Giggle Greetings

I don’t often do sarcastic cards, but I do like some of the stamps in this Giggle Greetings #131065 (clear-mount) and #131062 (wood-mount).   They are easy to use and some very cute cards can be made in just a few minutes of work.

So far, I have done water-coloring with these cards, but you can use this stamp set any way you choose.

Bowl of Cherries

Bowl of Cherries

This fun card can be used for so  many different occasions:  Get Well, Difficult Situation, Thinking of You, Good Luck, Birthday …and so many more.  I made this card with a variety of background Designer Papers and a variety of ribbons tied in different ways.  They all turned out really cute.  This particular card used Midnight Muse cardstock #126843, Very Vanilla cardstock #101650, Raspberry Ripple 3/8″ stitched Satin Ribbon #126845.  For water-coloring, I used Midnight Muse #126860, Raspberry Ripple  #126859 and So Saffron #126957 classic inks.  The image was first stamped with StazOn Black Ink #101406 (best for water-coloring so the stamped image doesn’t smear).

Birthdays are like Hairballs

Birthdays are like Hairballs

This card is so much fun.  I also made this one with several different color combinations also.  They all turned out adorable.  The finishing touch on this fun card is the hairball!  To make the hairball, just used any of the ribbons that can separate – such as Baker’s Twine  or Linen Thread #104199.  Cut about 1-1/2″ of ribbon and then separate the threads and roll them up to create the hairball.  Adhere the hairball with a Glue Dot #103683.

Here is a card made with a 3rd stamp in this fun Giggle Greetings Stamp Set.

Age is something that doesn't count unless you are a cheese

Age is something that doesn’t count unless you are a cheese

I used StazOn Black Ink #101406 to stamp the image and then used Stampin’ Up!(c) Classic Inks – So Saffron  #126957 for the cheese (which is a perfect match for the card!), Pumpkin Pie #126945 for the plate, Real Red #126949 for the strips on the candle and Daffodil Delight #126944 for the candle flame.  This particular card is made with the NEW Watercolor Wonder Note Cards #133362 from the new Celebrate the Everyday Mini Catalog.  (See my Blog on January 8, 2014 for more information)

Everyone we know needs a “giggle” at some time.  This fun Giggle Greetings Stamp Set is a great way to do that.  Think of those people in your life who need a little smile today and make one of these fun cards for them.  They will love what you make and that you remembered them!

Celebrate the Everyday

It is time for a NEW Mini Catalog from Stampin’ Up!(c).  It is the Celebrate the Everyday Occasions catalog and is full of fun new things!

This catalog helps us move from the cold and dreary of winter into spring and new life.  Always exciting and always refreshing!

There are ideas for Valentine’s Day, Easter and every day in between.

I have received my first order from this new catalog and I am thrilled!  I have already had so much fun!!

I ordered the Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards and Envelopes #133362.  I love them!  The cards and envelopes are a little smaller than most cards I make.  The dimensions are 5″ x 3-1/2″ (instead of a regular card at 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″).  These cards are made with watercolor paper so they are ready to watercolor on them or to just stamp on.  Remember, when water-coloring, you want to use Black StazOn Ink #101406 so your stamped image won’t run.  But the coloring of the stamped images, any of the Stampin’ Up!(c) inks will work.  (See below for more information on water-coloring)

Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards & Envelopes

The Water-Color Wonder Note-cards were so easy to use and so fast!  You can make multiple cards in just minutes when using these.  I made 4 or 5 cards in just 10 minutes.d  It was great!!

The easiest way to do water-coloring is with the Stampin’ Up!(c) Aqua Painters #103954 and your Stampin’ Up!(c) Classic Ink Pads.  You can use any of the Stampin’ Up! colors.  The Aqua Painter has a barrel that you fill with water.  It then acts as a damp paintbrush that you use to color with.  The easiest way to use your ink pads for water-coloring is to squeeze the lid against the ink pad to get a small amount of ink onto the inside of the stamp pad lid.  This becomes your paint palette.  Then use the Aqua Painter as a paintbrush.  Dab the tip of the Aqua Painter into the ink on the lid and “paint” your stamped image.  When you want to change colors, you just wipe the tip clean on a piece of scrap paper or paper towel.  So 1 Aqua Painter can be used for all colors.

So easy!  I also find it very relaxing.  Just like sitting down to color.

Here are a couple of the cards I made using the Water-Color wonder Note-cards:

Age is something that doesn't count unless you are a cheese

Age is something that doesn’t count unless you are a cheese

The particular note card is perfect for this stamp!  This is one of the stamps from Giggle Greetings #131065 (clear-mount) and #131062 (wood-mount).

This next card was so simple.  No painting or coloring needed.

People Like You Wood Stamp

People Like You Wood Stamp

What a beautiful stamp!  This stamp, called “People Like You” is a new wood-mount stamp #133215 found in the new Mini catalog.  I felt this stamp was perfect for this green Water-Color Wonder Note Card.

I also stamped part of the flower image onto the front of the envelope.  I try to coordinate envelopes with the cards whenever possible.

You will want to look through this new fun catalog and make your shopping list!  So many things…..so little time! Remember, you can shop my on-line store anytime that is convenient for you!  Shop 24/7!

Stamp until your happy!  So much cheaper and more rewarding than therapy!

Decorated Paint Cans

My sister, Anita Russell, recently closed her floral shop.  I was a proud recipient of a few of her left-over items.  I was so excited!

She had just over 2 dozen colored paint cans with a handle and a inner plastic container to hold the beautiful bouquets she would make.  (I loved to just watch her create a bouquet.  Each one was a beautiful artistic creation –   So perfect.  I was always amazed at the outcome.  Each and every one was perfect!)

I don’t have Anita’s talent, but I sure do love to play with my stamps and tools to make my own creations.  Here are a few of the paint cans I decorated today.

Red Paint Can

Red Paint Can

I am sorry to say that  some of the items I used on my creations are discontinued….don’t you just hate that?!  But some are still available in my on-line store!

The paint cans came colored, so I used Stampin’ Up! products that would coordinate with the color on the can.  However, you can purchase silver and clear Paint Cans at most craft stores and home improvement stores.  The ones in the craft stores come in various sizes.

To decorate this first Paint Can, I used the Stampin’ Up!(c) Tasteful Trim Bigz Die #120893 to cut the scalloped edging in Silver Glimmer Paper #124005.  I punched hearts using various Stampin’ Up!(c) heart punches.  There are currently two different heart punches available:  Small Heart #117193 and the Full Heart #119883.  There are also different hearts and sizes in the Thinlets Hearts Collection #125599, Hearts a Flutter Thinlets #130159 and Fashionable Hearts Embosslits #125596.  The “love” was cut with the Expressions Thinlits dies, which I am sad to say, are no longer available…..drats!  The arrow was cut using The Thinlit Label Card set #133479.  Both the “love” and the arrow were cut out of Basic Black cardstock #121045.

I filled the inside of this red can with red and white Sixlet candies.  Tied the bag with 1/8″ Silver Ribbon #132137 and added another heart punched from Glimmer paper.  So cute!  And so simple!

I also made a Purple Paint Can.  I was thinking more about Mother’s and Grandmothers when I made this can – pretty and loving, but not too mushy.

Purple Paint Can with lace and roses

Purple Paint Can with lace and roses

I used retired lace and embellishments, but there are current Stampin’ Up! products that would work just as well.  The 5/8″ Crochet Trim #118481 or any of the 3/8″ Taffeta ribbons or 1/2″ seam Binding Ribbons would work beautifully!  The roses are from a retired Embellishment Set, but you can now make the clay roses and flowers  using the Simply Pressed clay Molds.  These new molds and clay are wonderful because you can add a few drops of your re-inker and have your flowers coordinate perfectly with any Stampin’ Up!(c) color.  The Simply Pressed Clay is #130685 and the molds are #131272.  You can also use any stamp image on the clay!  What fun!

This can is filled with Hershey’s Bliss Milk Chocolate candy and Hershey Kisses, so I could match the purple color.

Watch for more fun Paint Can ideas!  I have made a few more for Valentine’s Day and I have a few fun ones for children running around in my mind.  Can’t wait to get a chance to make them!

Beyond Picture Frames

I had a lot of fun working on picture frames this fall.  But I wanted to go the next step and create a frame that shared some of the Reason for the Season.  I came up with two different frames and enjoyed the creative element of adding a sentiment for the Holiday season.

This first one was a lot of fun.  I didn’t really have a plan, I just played until I liked how it looked.

JOY

JOY

I painted the frame white with acrylic paint, but I kept the coats of paint light.  It doesn’t show in this picture, but there is some wood-grain showing through the paint.

I used all Stampin’ Up! products to create the picture focal point. The background Stampin’ Up!(c) Designer Paper is  Seasons of Style #132340.  The small strips of Designer Paper on the front surrounding the opening is from the Designer Series Paper Stacks #130134.  The letters spelling JOY and the heart are cut from Stampin’ Up! Cherry Cobbler card-stock #119685 with an Old Olive card-stock #100703 shadow background.  The snowflakes are cut from Whisper White card-stock #100703.  The decorative swirl behind the letter “O” is made with Old Olive card-stock also.

In the upper left corner is a Tea Lace Paper Doilies #129399.  Other embellishments include Basic Rhinestone Jewels #119246, Pearl Basic Jewels #119247.  2 small retired bells were also used.  Ribbons used were Pear Pizzazz 3/8″ Taffeta Ribbon #131208 and Early Espresso Baker’s Twine #123124.

The second frame I styled after a Christmas card I made.

Peace

Peace

Again, the frame is lightly painted with white acrylic paint.  The background in the center focal point is Stampin’ Up! card-stock Night of Navy #100867.

I stamped the images from the Calm Christmas stamp set (clear-mount #132739 and wood-mount #132736) and embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder #109131.  Once the stamped and embossed powder dried, I colored the stem in the dove’s mouth with a green Sharpie.  I added a Basic Pearl Jewel #119247 to the Dove for an eye.

Surrounding the picture area, I used two different Designer Papers from the Regal #130139 and Neutrals #130132 Designer Series Paper Stacks.

I love the Designer Series Paper Stacks!  There is one for each color family.  No matter what your project is – you can always find Designer Papers to match.  It makes it so easy to put that final touch on everything you make!

Remember, all of these items can be found in my on-line store!  You can shop 24/7 at your own convenience!

Please let me know if I can answer any questions!

Happy Stamping!
